The spring is here: the weather is lovely (although somewhat unpredictable), the flowers are blooming and nature is waking up. This is the time to enjoy the beauty of our country and to travel, before the Passover cleaning and preparations take over our life.
My mother-in-law (חָמוֹת) decided to invite the family (מִשְׁפָּחָה) to a vacation (חֻפְשָׁה) in the northern part of Israel and we are very excited. The kids are excited about missing a day at school and about staying in a hotel(מָלוֹן) . The grown-ups are excited about taking time off work, traveling and getting together. And Safta (grandma) is happy about gathering the whole family around her. [Grandmother is spelled in Hebrew “סָבְתָא” (savta), but it is too difficult to pronounce the “ב” (vet) after the “ס” (samex), therefore we all say “safta” instead.]
I decided to share with you the preparations for the trip, and next week you’ll hear about the trip itself. This morning my husband decided to stay at home a bit to get ready for our trip. Well, he took the kids to school, like every morning, and 30 minutes later, he called me on the phone laughing – he just found himself at work. The car simply drove there out of a habit… Hopefully, tomorrow, we’ll teach that car new routs.
But, that’s OK because getting ready for a trip is not so difficult – some clothes (בְּגָדִים), some food (אֹכֶל), games (מִשְׂחָקִים) for the kids, and I hope that my brother-in-law (גִּיס) brings his guitar (גִּיטָרָה) so we can sing together in the evenings. The minute we get into our car, the kids get hungry and thirsty and bored, so we try to be prepared in advance. Handy food and beverage is an easy task, but keeping the car at a reasonable level of cleanliness is a different task, but we try not to be too strict about it – after all, we want to enjoy. [When I took my car to the garage, they insisted on putting the plastic bag that protects the upholstery. When I mentioned how ridiculous it was, the mechanic said that he didn’t want to get messy J]. And in regard to boredom in the care - we are over the stage that our children simply fall asleep, so undesirable activity at the back seats is prevented only by interesting word games and the like. I’ll ask the kids to prepare some.
So, I’ll go and put the clothes in the suitcase (מִזְוָדָה), the food in the picnic box
(צֵידָנִית), and the patience (סַבְלָנוּת)in my head, and we are off for a great trip!
